The wine industry has not been a significant contributor to the Murraylands economy although quality grapes are grown at Blanchetown, Morgan, Cadell, Nildottie, Mypolonga and Swan Reach for example. A Murraylands Wine Industry Plan will identify potential for development of Murraylands grapes and wines. Prospects have been identified for servicing specialist markets in China or South-East Asia.

OPPORTUNITIES

Investment in a crushing plant/bottling plant strategically located in the Monarto area could provide important support for regional and neighbouring grape-growers and establish a new industry. Potential may exist for development of grape production in the Southern Mallee within an identified Murraylands grape growing region.
